October 25-27, 2007..Loving Presence Foundation, Inc. conducted a surgical mission (free cataract surgery) at Marihatag, Surigao del Sur with Cong. Pechay as the sponsor of the said event. The patients were screened by Dr. Tan and those candidate for cataract surgery were advised to be admitted at the said hospital and operation will be scheduled tomorrow. After the screening, we the surgical team were shocked since we were given IDs’ to be identified as part of the team..(no ID no food daw..ahehehe) This was the first surgery that IDs are provided…ahehehe… Snacks were served and after we headed to our quarters at the tree park. The tree park was a nice place. Its like a resort where you can have swimming coz it’s near the beach. One thing that attracks me most are the ostrich…(ang dami nila..and natakot ako baka mangagat…ahehe..pero ngpapicture talaga ako..) We rested for about an hour and we headed to the hospital for our dinner. Gosh!..We had our close encounter with Mr. Lechon..(hahaha..)

Surgery day!…We started at around 9am and end up at around 5pm with I think 20 cataract patients. You can’t believe it!…FOODS are always served…my stomach signals “NO SPACE FOR NEW FOODS”..I can’t barely breath due to the feeling of fullness. Mr. Lechon was once served during our lunch and dinner with lots of seafoods. Speaking of seafoods…not to mention I am allergy with it but then the team was ready and they brought a lot of antihistamine with them..(Thank God!) No to diet and No to work out at this time…ahehehe…

Post-operative day! We had the post-operative at around 10am. We gave medicines and instructions to the patients and the watchers. And the most awaited part is the activity after surgery…(adventure!) ahehehe… Boslon Island here we come! Then after we went home. Since we arrived at Butuan City at 6pm it was a late for us to travel to Bislig City so we decided to have a sleep over at Butuan City. (@ Dr. Tan’s residence) We had our dinner at Mom’s Restaurant (eat all you can). The food was good…and guys, they charged as with the water served…and it’s tap water! Imagine that?..They charge their customers with the water…Bad!…

To Bislig City…we departed at around 11am. We had our lunch at San Francisco…I am so excited to be home and upload all our pictures taken at Boslon Island but unfotunately when I arrived home, the whole town experienced blackout…(wahahaha….) how sad!!! So I decided to sleep and take a rest. I woke up at around 6pm and fortunately everything is working fine so I hurridly grab a chair and upload all our pictures. Minutes after uploading our pics, my friends send comments stating how nice the place…want to have a glimpse?…log on to http://profiles.friendster.com/maiykha

I just finished taking my online exams on medical-surgical nursing concept. A hundred item test, multiple choice type of exam…It’s abit easy but tricky. I listed all my wrong items to count my scores…while waiting for the results I was shocked with the outcome ‘coz I only got 63 out of 100 well in fact I only have 27 mistakes…The computer sucks! (don’t know how to count….ahehehe…) I’m so damn frustrated!

Who to prioritize? October 23, 2007

October 21, 2007. It was a lovely Sunday for a part time school nurse at Assumption College of Davao. Started the day with God’s words and hurridly went to work.  Periodical examination was over so, the school nurse is in action again. While having the annual physical check-up of 4th year highschool students, a 2nd year highschool student walked in guarding her abdomen with grimace face. So, without a doubt I attended to her needs setting aside the on-going physical check-up. I immediately checked her vital signs and  assessed the pain she felt and do history taking only to find out that she has a history of UTI (Urinary Tract Infection). She honestly told me that she, together with her friends had soda/softdrinks during their lunch. She was forced to drink since she will be labeled as “kill joy” if she won’t. Thus, as a consequence, she experienced flank pain which is a manifestation of UTI. After the initial assessment, she was checked by the school doctor and medication was prescribed. As part of my responsibility, I administer the drug and closely monitor her. After a few minutes after taking the drug and rest, she was relieved. I never thought of leaving the student for she is in pain and at that time she really need someone to talk to.She extended her gratitude of helping and listening to her. In return, I offer myself and the clinic is case she needs help and someone to talk to.   Her problem is not only the pain she is experiencing but most especially the pressure brought by her friends which lead her to the incident. Being a nurse is not that easy after all. We are dealing with people not papers, thus, one should know who to priorotize.
